When the World of Work is Safe
A safe workplace is one where a woman walks through the door knowing her body, her labour, and her voice are respected. Where reporting harassment does not cost her livelihood. Where policies are not merely displayed on walls but practised on factory floors and boardrooms.
In a safe workplace, women are promoted on merit and paid equitably. Maternity leave is not a career penalty. Night shifts come with safe transport. Complaints are met with action, not silence. A safe workplace does not simply comply with minimum standards; it actively designs for safety and dignity asa measure of its own excellence.
When the City is Safe
A safe city is one where a woman can move through freely at any hour, by any route, in any neighbourhood. Streets are lit. Public transport is reliable and free from harassment. Parks are designed for everyone, and not only for those whose safety is assumed. Emergency services are trusted and responsive.
In a safe city, women are not mere beneficiaries. They participate fully in public life across markets, squares, and council chambers. They run for office, start businesses, mentor the next generation, and gather in community without fear. Urban planning centres their needs. Budgets reflect their priorities. Policies are shaped by their voices.
When the Home is Safe
A safe home is more than the absence of violence. It is a place where a women's voice carries equal weight, her choices are respected, and she can rest without vigilance, speak without fear, and move freely without permission.
She does not have to choose between her safety and her children’s stability. She does not weigh the danger of leaving against the danger of staying. She is not isolated from her community, her income, or her sense of self. A safe home is where dignity is practiced daily in small gestures of respect, shared decisions, and laughter.
Dignity Index Global does not work directly within the home. We work at the level of cities and industry, because we know that safety, when it is genuinely practiced and consistently measured in public life, moves home freely.
